ROMANCE FOR ONE
“When a woman unloads a man, a woman blooms. She blossoms. Like flowers. She is ripe.”
THE MAKING OF 'ROMANCE FOR ONE'
Each of these MeOhMy shorts are 1/6 of a set of experimental pieces
testing a different component of film making.
This film is No. 2 of 6.
The goal of this piece was to experiment with lighting.
My first short after Bloom Girl was relatively low-key compared to ten days running around Italy in 3 degree temps. We hired a run down hotel, transformed each room into a different vibe-check, and pimped the place with fun lighting. This was my first time working with artificial lighting, after a few years of only mucking with natural light. I immediately fell in love with the whole thing and how much it could add to the stylisation of a scene.
The concept was simple- vibey clips of a girl treating herself after getting dumped.
Add in some slightly sinister tunes (bit of a Florence + The Machine meets crackling '60s radio ad x Orson Welles vibe) + plenty of slow mo' + you've got a 2 minutes of cherry red romance.
